Tom, a modestly-successful, highly self-loathing Edinburgh ghost writer is hired to pen the memoirs of the gorgeous and wildly popular TV soap actress Georgina Nye. While spending time with "George" to research the book, Tom falls hard for her charm, seemingly blind to what this could mean to his five-year relationship with Sara. Tom begins to manufacture excuses for his disappearances and panic attacks, and starts a series of lies guaranteed to ruin his relationship with Sara. By the time Tom and Georgia act upon their impulses, Tom has already abandoned the safety and sureness of his relationship with Sara, the private ideal that had attracted George's attention in the first place.
