Natural disasters, particularly floods, have always existed and are a common and recurrent phenomenon in human history. Nevertheless, in recent decades, catastrophic phenomena seem to occur at a more accelerated pace and are potentially more dangerous and devastating. The exacerbation of the consequences of disasters appears to be due to two major factors: climate change (for the increase in the occurrence of phenomena) and urban expansion, a consequence of population growth. The North-Western part of Algeria is not sheltered from this phenomenon because of its geographical position which is known by its immense quantity of rain in winter months, and also the irregularity of its precipitations in winter season but also autumn. A good knowledge of this phenomenon is decisive to analyze and map the risk of a flooding and to foresee the different solutions of development.
