Since it was first discovered, gold has evoked many emotions, the foremost of which is greed. When this precious metal was discovered in South Africa it was no different, and countless men have risked all trying to get their hands on it...legally or otherwise.

The need to protect the gold on its journey from deep within the bowels of the earth to bank vaults and jewelers' workshops was, and is, of paramount importance. Mark Corby was one the men employed in this endeavor and his book takes you behind the scenes to meet the colorful characters who spent their days guarding it, the men from myriad tribes and cultures who mined it, the people who tried to steal it, and the people who controlled it all.
