Young boy Xiangshu was the most unwelcomed child in the village as his father was a thief. He was alone in a lonely and vast world while other children enjoyed the cool breeze under the hayloft in the hot summer. He ran freely and shouts in the rice fields, on the river bank, by the pond, as if he had the world around him all to himself. However, he was suspected by the villagers of repeated thefts in the village. The self-respecting Xiangshu had to find a way to prove his innocence... This is the latest work of Cao Wenxuan, winner of the Hans Christian Andersen Award, showing a guardianship and respect for children's hearts by depicting a boy's loneliness and stubbornness with delicate and powerful brushstrokes.
