A Flat Calm

On April 14, 1912, the world's most luxurious liner Titanic struck an iceberg, 400 miles off the coast of Newfoundland. Over 2 hours and 40 minutes, the liner sank, taking the lives of 1,496 out of the 2,208 passengers and crew aboard. The tragedy shocked the world and led to raising safety standards for ships worldwide. Charles Lightoller, the second officer aboard the ship, described the ocean that night as A Flat Calm, hence the name of this book. The story of the Titanic is one of heroism, cowardice, and the breaking of mankind's hubris against that of nature. It still captures the minds of people 112 years later and stands as a testament to the fragility of the human race. This book hopes to capture the events of the construction, voyage, and eventual sinking of the ship while also providing theories and accounts of how the ship behaved in her final hours.
