Edward Livingston, an eligible bachelor, admires the ladies at balls and parties-from afar. After being snubbed at age 17, he is convinced that a woman's touch will do nothing for him.

But during the first ball of the new year, when he tires of the party and seeks an empty, dark room for a long nap, a mysterious young woman greets and kisses him in the dark, thinking he is her beau.
