A Long Road Home

Battle Fatigue, Shell Shock, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. They all have plagued soldiers since the first battles were ever fought. Men and women react differently to stressful events in their lives. Mike Malloy was like any other American teenager trying to find his place in society until he was drafted and sent to Vietnam. Arriving in a humid war-torn country, he was thrown into battle and forced to kill or be killed. Seeing and caring for men who were severely wounded forced him to grow up long before he was ready.

The brotherhood he developed with Tex Johnson, a black sergeant, helped him through moments of sheer terror followed by days of boredom, which gave him too much time to think about what he was doing and what had happened to him. The accidental killing of civilians bore strongly on his mind. Plagued with horrible nightmares about the war, Mike fought to retain his sanity.
