A Rebellious Woman tells the life of Belle Boyd (1844-1900), who first made headlines as a teenager when she shot a soldier who invaded her home. She went on to become a legendary spy until she was exiled from home at seventeen. On her own, Belle lived by her wits. She became an actress, appeared on stage wearing trousers, and promoted herself as the Famous Rebel Spy. Over the course of her tumultuous life, Belle became a symbol of the bravery and sacrifice of both the North and the South.
