Thirty five year old Richard Devonport a property valuer, his wife, May and their two sons fly to New Zealand for a short holiday.

On their return trip, due to stormy weather, the plane crashes not far from Sydney and bursts violently in flames. All passengers and crew die except Richard, who goes into a coma, and is taken to a hospital in Sydney. Many months go by. The long care by the hospital staff helps him to finally wake up.

He wonders why he is in a hospital and where his beloved family is. After months of medical treatment, he is told about the tragic death of his family, which he does not believe at first.

Twelve months later he returns to his home, which he finds empty and lifeless. His faith in life gradually returns. He joins a dating service club, where he meets a divorced lady called Michelle, who has two teenage boys. She accepts Richard's invitation to move into his house with her two boys.

Soon they find their association difficult, with the boys. Finally Richard and Michelle decide to part.

Free again, Richard returns to his favorite fencing club, where he meets an attractive widow called, Barbara. They fall in love and get married.

One day he receives a letter from his solicitor, informing him that his claim for compensation regarding the tragic air crash is granted. He receives a large sum of money from the insurance company and invests it wisely.

Richard's long bereavement comes to an end with Barbara's love for him, and the birth of their twins.

Due to his wise investments, he becomes a very rich man, who looks forward to many years of prosperity in his happy life.
