A Travel Guide to World War II Sites in Italy

The pandemic altered the hours of some sites described in this book (published in late 2016). For updates, please see each chapter's websites. This book describes 200 WWII museums, monuments, and battlegrounds grouped into tours that focus on a particular city or region. The tours begin in Sicily, where c. 100,000 Allied troops landed in 1943, and end in northern Italy, where the war drew to a close in April/May 1945. Most of the memorials commemorate those who fought to liberate Italy: the British Eighth Army (a very diverse group), the U.S. Fifth Army, the Italian Resistance, and thousands of Italian civilians.
