We've all got skeletons in our closets. Some come with pain that we carry with us our whole lives. Sadly, sometimes that pain is projected on to the people in our lives.

By the time Richard was old enough to realize the indignities that were cast on him, it was too late. He had already receded into a place so dark it became who he was.
