Active Materials and Adaptive Structures

This is part of a series which deals with the theory and applications of smart materials systems and controlled-structures technology. It addresses such areas of research as active materials, adaptive optics, smart sensors and actuators, fibre-optic technology, adaptive and precision structures, and intelligent biomechanical and micromechanical structures. These proceedings of the 1991 Active Materials and Adaptive Structures Conference, held in Alexandria, Virginia, USA, address the explosion in both theory and application of recent developments in smart, intelligent or adaptive structures. The multidisciplinary nature of this area of research is reflected in the wide spectrum of topics covered in the volume. These include fibre optic sensors, control structures, micromechanics, shape memory alloys, piezoceramic materials, adaptive structures, smart sensors and active/passive damping.
