Afterlight

Afterlight is the winner of the 1983 Juniper Prize, the annual poetry award sponsored by the University of Massachusetts Press. The subjects of Hudson's poems are nature, especially the Western landscape, and themes drawn from the history of literature and the arts and mythology. These poems are consistently united in expressing the exile of people from the sources of their power. Hudson's belief is an old one: poetry can restore us to wholeness. His language is precise and original, and the powerful images he evokes take us some way toward the fundamental clarity that he wishes to provide.
