All Aboard

When Suzanne boarded that train to Washington DC in 1956, she knew it was the beginning of her adult journey. As a woman of color in 1950’s America, she knew that she would ride a rail fraught with the perils of racism and combined with socially imposed constraints on women. Along the way she is emotionally torn between her brother Jack’s somewhat arrogant, intellectual best friend Jimmy and the sharp-dressed, debonnaire Lee. This fictionalized memoir follows a young woman from the Oklahoma Ozarks to the US Capital in a quest to find her God-guided path into a new life there, while not forgetting the family, friends and lessons left behind.
