Includes casualties and financial costs for military actions fought by the USA, territorial build-up
of the US, annual battle deaths compared to populations and to the numbers of combatants, battle
deaths and other casualties by individual battle and or campaign, financial costs for each war in "attime"
dollars and in current dollars, and annual spending and direct costs of wars. Schedules by
presidential terms include battle deaths, federal government spending, direct war spending, and
government spending deficits or surpluses. The federal government incomes, spending, and
surpluses or deficits are shown for the past 232 years. Defense department spending is shown for
65 years and as a percentage of gross domestic product for Years 2001 through 2008. Direct and
total war costs are shown in at-time dollars and in Year 2007 dollars as percentages of nominal and
real gross domestic product. The relative position of the USA is shown compared to other nations
by geographic size, population, gross domestic product, military personnel, military spending, fire
power, nuclear weaponry, and other available military assets and hardware.
