An Austrian in Spain

This celebratory volume is a liber amicorum and comprises essays written by those who wish to honor a common friend for his unwavering commitment to classical liberal thought, his seminal academic work, his enterprising spirit and of course, his legendary elegant nature and sense of humor. All essays have been selected from a large group of international scholars and experts who are in one way or another closely connected with the European Center of Austrian Economics Foundation (ecaef.org), aleading European think tank chartered in the Principality of Liechtenstein.Pedro Schwartz, renowned the world over for his scholarly work, earned his doctorate in Law at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He also holds a PhD in Political Science and Economics from the London School of Economics (LSE). Currently Prof. Schwartz serves as Fundacion Raffael del Pino Research Professor at CEU University San Pablo University in Madrid and directs the Center for Political Economy and Regulation. Prof. Schwartz also teaches at the University of Buckingham and serves as an Adjunct Scholar at the Cato Institute (Washington, DC). He is a member of the European Center of Austrian Economics Foundation, a leading European think tank in Liechtenstein, of the Liberales Institut in Zurich, the Institute for Economic Affairs inLondon and the Civismo Foundation in Madrid. H.M. Queen Elizabeth II made him an Honorary Officer of the British Empire in 1990 and in 2003 he was awarded the Rey Jaime I Prize for his contributions to economics in Spain. The Royal Academy of Moral and Political Science of Spain elected him to lifetime membership in 2005. From 2014-2016 Prof. Schwartz served as President of the Mont Pelerin Society. In addition to his local and international academic appointments, Prof. Schwartz also is active in consultancy and holds multiple positions in business organizations.
