Kenya is among the top 3 tea Exporters earning about 3,660,000 Us dollars annually. Smallholder tea farmers account for 63% of produce with about 400,000 farmers spread in rural areas of tea growing Zones.It employs thousands directly/indirectly in rural and industrial areas. Smallholders produce less in terms of Kg/ha compared to the large scale estate sector with total few hectare, hence disparities in incomes.There is increasing neglected tea farms which occupy land that can be put to other economic uses and persistent poverty is noticeable yet tea is a sector which can really affect many people should it collapse. This book analyzes the situation both at production and post harvest level using descriptive, economic models and parametric tests with a case study of two districts of rural Kenya.
