Analysis of U.S. Field Service Regulations, MS No. P-133

The purpose of the following study was to secure from a panel of German experts a critical analysis and evaluation of the United States Army basic tactical doctrines as contained in the field service regulations (FM 100-5) on operations. Chapters include information on general principles, tactics, leadership, exercise of command, combat intelligence, reconnaissance, counterintelligence, security, troop movements, the offensive, the defensive, retrograde movements, special operations, and airborne operations. The manual represents a successful attempt to formulate the practical experience of World War II in clear, generally valid rules. It provides a comprehensive survey of tactical problems in the conduct of operations which may arise in a future war and furnishes practical guidance for solving them.
