Reared in depression-era West Virginia, Florence Baltimore McDaniels always wanted to become a teacher. She immersed herself in books throughout her years in elementary and high school. Even while working as a maid during the summer months for a prominent family, Florence would (upon permission) visit the family library and read books. She excelled in school and in college, earning a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Education and a Masters of Arts Degree in Education. She boasts that hard work and good study habits really pay off.

This is a story of pride, joy and family fellowship in the face of adversity. Life was hard, but everyone in the family carried his or her own weight. Becoming a responsible, loving, and self-assured person is directly attributed to parents' influence and guidance.
