The book explores the increased burden of anemia among the pregnant women in developing countries who are also infected with HIV/AIDS. It presents and discusses research findings that show that HIV-infected pregnant women are more than two times likely to be anemic than HIV-uninfected counterparts, (Relative risk=2.33). It draws conclusion from the findings to indicate that HIV/AIDS infection is associated with low Hemoglobin levels and higher anemia prevalence and severity among pregnant women. It calls for pre-natal nutrition care system that emphasizes improved consumption of essential nutrients including iron of high biological value and implementation of interventions tailored to check anemia prevalence and severity among pregnant women within the context of HIV/AIDS pandemic and low socio-economic settings.
