This is a saga of international horse racing and breeding and the families who commit themselves to its trials and achievements. The journeys of Chauncie D'Arcy Emmet, an Irish vet, specialising in race horses, and consultant to many of the leading establishments, travels round the world to advise her clients. Ireland, England, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, France and the USA are all part of the story. Families meet in the colourful field of racing silks and in the race to the winning post. There is more than one winning post; buying and selling of great stallions and the search for brood-mares, the establishment of famous lines, big business deals to secure the future against international events, the risk of uprooting and relocating valuable stock on the other side of the world, and the rescue-in passing- of Vietnamese boat people-are all part of the excitement.
