As Fate Would Have It

A Life Revealed in Stories... A retired family physician revisits his Texas boyhood and reflects on his life in a series of vignettes. They portray his experiences singing love songs in the early days of television; growing up with a brother with Down syndrome; going to medical school in Virginia and being a physician in Oregon; traveling, adventuring, and encountering near-death experiences. After he finds the love of his life-a woman who shares his Buddhist beliefs and predilection for competitive sports-he loses her to a fatal biking accident, and recounts his long recovery from her death. Throughout these stories, his life unfolds as if directed by fate, as these crucial events reveal to him who he really is.
