Bacterial Efflux Systems

The volume covers experimental and computational approaches to study the function, structure and mechanism of bacterial efflux pump systems. The methods covered include preparation of samples for structural and functional analyses, and in vivo activity analysis. Essays for evaluating activity are described, including reconstitution of system for quantitative analysis of efflux activity. The topics include sample preparation and analysis for structure determination of pump components and assemblies and with bound ligands and inhibitors, by x-ray crystallography and electron cryomicroscopy. Methods for in situ structural analysis by electron tomography are also described. Topics include partners of the efflux systems and the biogenesis of the nanomachines.
