Clifford Barnard was with the Quaker relief organisation the Friends Ambulance Unit, which was at Sandbostel concentration camp in May 1945, and he continued working with displaced persons to 1947 with the British Red Cross. These letters show his development from becoming a conscientious objector on leaving school, to experiencing the collapse of Germany and the start of its rebuilding.
