23-year-old medical student Wim Tierman returns to her hometown of Beaumont, Texas to comfort her childhood friend, Stacy Tau, after the recent death of Stacy's mother. Within hours of Wim's arrival, Stacy is shot down in the living room of her own home. On the surface there appears to be no motive for this heinous act. Stacy, diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome at the age of 5, had no apparent enemies and very few friends. With the exception of her mother, her dysfunctional family showed no real interest in her, and she lived a quiet, circumscribed life prior to her violent death. The family stonewalls, the police are stumped, leaving it to Wim to take on the task of identifying Stacy's killer. Wim comes to realize that almost everyone had a reason for wanting Stacy out of the way, but none seems sufficient to support murder. Can Wim unravel the clues from Stacy's final confounding conversation before the killer strikes again?
