Bread for Beggars

With a simple poetic style, Kurt Lammi retells Biblical stories in the first section of his book entitled "Bread." This clever approach to telling these well-known stories has a child-like quality about it. The second section, "Beggars," is different in both form and content than the first section. Here, Lammi addresses more mature themes such as faith, doubt, and social justice with poems that are more theologically reflective. By putting these two different sections together, Lammi emphasizes that the loving God who encounters us in the text is the same God who encounters us in our daily struggles, the God who feeds all of us beggars.
