It's 1977, and Avtar Singh and his family steps off the plane to start their new life in Vancouver, leaving behind all they knew in India. There's no way for them to know what life has in store for them and just how much of an impact the choices of the little boy tucked in his mother's arms would make on their community.
Broken Turban weaves together true stories from first-generation Sikhs and exposes never-talked-about real-life stories from first generation migrant Punjabi families-the hardships and struggles they experienced while in the process of settling in a new, foreign land. It's a heart-warming tale of accepting and embracing a multicultural society, and imagining the life of the future generations.

Satpal Sidhu writes under the name Paul Sidhu. He is from the Fraser Valley, British Columbia, which is one hour east of Vancouver where he raised his son and daughter. This book is dedicated to his older second cousin, Billy Singh, who was his role model-Paul wanted to comb his hair as Billy did and wear the same kind of jacket he did. Billy paved the way for Paul; he broke the ice. Paul started gathering information to write Billy's story several years ago, and finally, he was able to put it together in 2021. Unfortunately, Billy and his parents passed on by the time Paul could give shape to this book, but it is Paul's hope that anyone can read Billy's story and see themselves represented in it.
