Building You Up, the Novel & Soundtrack follows Paisley Ciel and her four friends as they try to balance their high school career, college applications, partying, and young love when the seriousness of their mental health struggles around grief start to push in on them.

After losing her beloved aunt who raised her, a seventeen-year-old Nuyorican kid from Queens, Paisley Ciel, is left with no choice but to move to the suburbs with her biological mother who is a recovering alcoholic.

There, she meets Ben Rosen, the dreamy town "flower boy" and his two friends, Will and Giulianna. The outcast group coin themselves, 'The Inconsolables.' They become inseparable and bond over their favorite musical album and unbeknownst to them, their quiet struggles with grief.

When Paisley begins to experience depressive episodes while trying to restore her relationship with her mother, Giulianna's anger towards her cheating father deepens, Will's harbored secrets chips away and Ben finds himself in deeper than he can manage.
