Draws from historic documents and newspapers: Richards's position on Board of Directors of the SS Atlantic Heritage Park and Society has provided her with ample opportunity to research this story. Much of it was drawn from Ralph Keeler's New York Tribune articles.

LGBTQ+ character in rare historical context: Richards, who has created stained glass installations for the first Pride Library in Canada (UWO London ON), and the ArQuives (formerly the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives in Toronto), brings this true story to life in graphic novel form.
