Children's Literature by Black Authors

Would you like to become a more effective and inclusive reading teacher? Well, Children's Literature by Black Authors: A Culturally Responsive Approach to Reading Instruction (A Resource Guide for Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5 Teachers) is an annotated list of over 100 children's books written by Black authors. The books are listed as mentor texts for teaching specific reading comprehension skills that can be challenging for most students. Some of those skills include finding the main idea, determining cause and effect, and making inferences. What's different about this list of books? Each book is written by Black authors and many are illustrated by Black illustrators who can provide a unique perspective of the overall Black experience, including Black history that will enlighten and educate teachers as well as students.
