Follow a single sea lion named Chomper in their journey from sea to land and back home to the salty, warm waters of Second Beach.
Chomper's days are filled with a blackberry belly full of shiny fish and people watching from the rainbow coloured curb in the historic area of Townsite.
Chomper was adopted by the Pacific Ocean, with the sheltering "Hulks" acting as his village of mothers, off of the coastal Qathet Region and Powell River mill.
Chomper brings to life the different kinds of mental illnesses and how many people see the world differently, like people who see the world through the minds of schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, psychosis, and delusional thinking and many more.
Try to figure out how Chomper sees outside his vantage point or spot with your index finger how the picture relates to the sentence. It should be fun! You may have to really stretch your mind just like you stretch your body every morning when you wake up.
For example, when Chomper sees a black and yellow bus, he sees it as a live bee. Or when Chomper looks at a back of a chair, he sees the pattern of a climbing wall. He is very creative. The book is riddled with analogies. You are always welcome to email the author at asickavish@gmail.com for the book's intended analogies or your own! She would love to hear from you.
You will learn how to bee more kind and aware now that you have the knowledge to understand more of your friends. And Chomper and I thank you for your kindness! And speaking of bees, we hope you get to meet Jake the spotted bee and Shelly the black legged crab, both "fly-by" characters in book one.
