(Presley usually traveled with a trunk full of spiritual and metaphysical books.) Returned in soul, the King reflects on his life and mythology, and on those who mattered to him most. What's most stunning, however, is not the story of the King's life (which is fascinating), but the tone and voice of the first-person narrative; it is Elvis Presley's! Using a process the author terms 'spiritual profiling', Jaffe employed meditation, prayer, and guidance to connect with Elvis' spirit and to bring to light the star's intimate and unknown personality in a portrait both haunting and vulnerable.
