Confessions of an Old Man

The future is being stolen out from under the millennial generation. Baby boomers have much to answer for: a legacy of economic instability, poor job growth, and an environmental disregard. They have shattered the American Dream. A confession of an old Man is a statement of collective guilt that places the responsibility on the author's generation for dealing a bad card to their children.

This is a call to action for the MI generation (defined as those born after 1980)-a generation with the most to lose if the United States continues with its current domestic and foreign policies. Millennials are paying the bills for their parents' neglect and they must have a say in their own future. A confession of an Old Man is also a call to those parents and grandparents who want to leave a better America for their children and grandchildren. The elections of 2018 and 2020 will be the most significant elections of this generation. The US House of Representative is filled with aging representatives (many of whom have held office for at least 20 years have become part of the permanent political class) who are out of touch with the priorities of the coming generation.

Moon offers one of the best opportunities for making a change. At least 51 incumbent congresspersons are not seeking reelection in 2018-a record and the best opportunity for turnover in congress. We can effectuate change. Now is the time. Confessions of an Old Man challenge the MI Generation to take charge of their destiny or have the future decided by rich old white men in which case they will:

• * serve as an automated teller machine (ATM) for Congress to steal $8,000+ per year from each     millennial for the rest of their lives versus saving that money for their retirement;


• * be sent to foreign lands to fight undeclared wars and potentially get killed or injured;


• * send their kids to schools while being unsure if they will come home safely;


• * not have the best health care they can afford;


• * have a society where not all human beings are equal;


• * not have a college degree because they can’t afford the tuition;


• * not be able to buy a home because they cannot qualify for a mortgage;


• * possibly not be able to retire because they are too broke;


• * watch the deaths of 155,000± fellow Americans every year because of pollution; and


• * watch law-abiding Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) kids torn away from their families.

But there is another choice. Members of the MI generation can take charge of their destiny by participating in the political process. The simple fact is that nobody will look out for the MI generation’s interests if its members don’t do so themselves.
