Despite much evidence for globalization, an international system remains dominant in political discourse. This book suggests that the lack of an alternative political structure prevents the move beyond models of hierarchy and anarchy and thus, in this space, forges a new theory of a global polity. In juxtaposition to statist discourse, Corry defines the positive notion of a global polity exploring its logic, boundaries and ordering principle, considering it in relation to existing terms such as global governance and global society. The book deploys this radical new framework to look for evidence of a global polity in the debate sparked by the dramatic anti-globalization protests that dogged a succession of elite global summits. Global polity recognises the impact of globalization upon governance and politics whereby global objects are being rendered as governable and the fault-lines of world politics are being redrawn.
