Conversations in Haarlem is the latest artist's book by Kate Pelling. The book features a series of drawings of ordinary people going about their daily lives in the streets of Haarlem, Netherlands.
Pelling saw many people in Haarlem, but she went there to research the artist Hendrick Goltzius (1558-1617), who had lived in the city for most of his life. She had many questions for Goltzius, but of course talking to him was impossible. So, this publication creates a relationship between Pelling and the people of Haarlem and in turn contributes to the other connections that Pelling and Goltzius share, due to both being artists, immigrants and also (curiously) ambidextrous.
Kate Pelling is a British artist based in Germany.
All text in English and German.
