This book offers a comprehensive and accessible account of the work of Tim Ingold, one of the leading anthropologists of our time. Presented as a series of interviews conducted by three anthropologists from the University of Glasgow over a period of two years, the book explores Ingold's key contributions to anthropology and other disciplines. In his responses, Ingold describes the significant influences shaping his life and career, and addresses some of the criticisms that have been made of his ideas. Over the past five decades, Tim Ingold has advanced thinking and research within the discipline of anthropology, and also made significant contributions to a wide range of debates in both the arts and humanities and the natural sciences. This book covers the entirety of Ingold's career, including his observations of human-animal relations in the circumpolar regions, his perspectives on the perception of the environment, and his meditations on lived experience in the material world. In tracing his career, this volume also gauges the evolving state of the field of social anthropology during this period, which has grappled with its complicated historical involvement in projects of colonialism as well as environmental and social activism.
