GABE PICKET Is struck by lightning while walking in the rain with his dog, Trumpet. He awakened to realize he is sharing the consciousness, and body, of his devoted dog! An unscrupulous neighbor tries to take over the deceased Gabe's ranch; Gabe's ranch; dognapping the duo and transporting them to a remote desert in Nevada. While learning to work as one, they perform a cunning escape.
Along a desolate highway they are rescued by a spirited female Air Force combat veteran, riding a motorcycle with a sidecar. She is unaware of the dog's psychic passenger, but Gabe and Trumpet manage to convey their need to return to Sonoma County in Northern California. Together, the trio goes on a hazardous journey to take Trumpet home and deliver Gabe to his final destiny.
