The essays in this volume are published in honour of the distinguished Japanese scholar of English literature, Professor Hisaaki Yamanouchi. The book begins with a section on English Romanticism, with pieces on Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Shelley and Keats. There follow studies of aspects of literature from Chaucer to Henry James, and lighter pieces on biographical errors, and on cats and nonsense literature. The volume concludes with a short personal section, including a memoir by Professor Yamanouchi's close friend, the Nobel Prize winner, Kenzaburo Oe. Professor GEORGE HUGHES teaches in the Department of Literature, Faculty of Letters, Tokyo University. Contributors: ALAN BEWELL, J.R. de J.
