The final volume in the Dibs on the Downtrodden trilogy, Credendum offers a mad sweep of a world and time we live in that simultaneously challenges and comforts us by asseverating the improbable proclamation of being alive. An alchemy of words concocted via the dark art of neologism, these poems conjure the feverish, trance-like, interpretations of a labyrinthine imagination that are presented in what has been referred to as "psychomatic writing".
As each poetic incantation is uttered, strange, majestic creatures are summonsed: saintly heretics, lost dreamers, contemptible lovers, junkie outcasts, scorned deities and roguish Quixotes. They serve as antithetical reminders that life is both a misfortune and a miracle; it deserves our woe and wonder, our loving concern and complete consternation for all the vast horrors it can inflict on us at any moment.
But these characters have known vast horrors well and still marvel at the world around them. They have "walked a long mile" and they "still give a damn". And therein lies some salvation to the congregation - that these holy miscreants are still out there somewhere, tilting at windmills, valiantly fighting the urge to give in completely and leaving us with a sense that, in the end, all they so badly want is to be good.
