This two-volume anthology charts the socioeconomic, cultural, and psychological anxieties that shaped nineteenth-century British literature and popular culture. Other topics include atypical bodies, mental illness, suicide, and homelessness. Volume II is organized around four rubrics: monstrosity; hauntings; alien worlds; and death.
