Davy Crockett

David Crockett, the frontier humorist and teller of tall tales, comes to life here in what is usually known as his "Autobiography." Crockett was surrounded by such a mass of folklore that the man became entangled with myth. To aid the reader, the editors of the facsimile edition have supplied historical and political background information to clarify the historical allusions used by the Tennessean. In addition, because Crockett was not a polished nor careful historian, the editors have corrected errors of fact, chiefly in the dating of events.
