Dead Reckoning: The Crisis in Biblical Interpretation

A new idea with potentially devastating personal and organizational consequences is being propagated in evangelical Christianity today: God is done--finished--with Israel. Many Christian academic institutions, churches, and missional organizations are adopting this subtle antisemitic idea and consequently disseminating false doctrine. Underlying this crisis is Biblical Hermeneutics--the methods of interpreting the Bible. When the methods of interpretation are abused, the result is cultic teachings that often end in personal and national disaster--just like Germany experienced in World War 2 under the Nazis. Could history be repeating itself in the 21st Century? Is a new apostasy being cultivated in the evangelical Church today? This book surveys the history of Biblical interpretation examining how Jesus, the apostles, and early church leaders over the centuries have faithfully interpreted the Bible; and offers hope for today through the application of a strategic plan given to the church in the 3rd Century when confronting a similar crisis--one that threatened to split and destroy the Roman Empire!

Rev. Dr. Russ Veenker has served in ministry for over 50 years. He has ministered in a variety of roles: youth pastor, church planting pastor/consultant, lead pastor, and Clinical Director (BCPC) and Co-Founder of a therapeutic pastoral retreat center in California. His forty-one years specializing in clergy health has taken him around the world for clinical work, and he has written and been published in various periodicals. He is a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary and Fuller Seminary. He enjoys all aspects of living in the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains near Yosemite National Park and has been the recipient of two Medals of Valor for his volunteer work with the Mono County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team. He and his wife, Kandace, have two adult sons, and four grandchildren.
