Democracy in Textbooks and Student Minds

This book deals with student perceptions of and attitudes towards democracy, and the way democracy is accounted for in the textbooks of four transition countries. Although the subject nations are very different otherwise, they share the trait of transition -- in the economic, political and social arenas. As many countries around the world have become liberal democracies in the last decade, there has been no investigation of education's role in this process. This book addresses that void by examining the state's role in spreading democratic themes and studying the presentation of democracy and human rights in various textbooks.
