The objective of the book is to provide advanced topics ranging from fatigue failure and wear of biomaterials, lasers in medicine, 3D printing of scaffolds, tissue engineering, stem cells to case studies like hip implants, heart valves left ventricular pumps and coronary stents, to name a few. It is hoped by providing such advanced topics and case studies the reader may have a deeper understanding on the design process, materials selection, regulatory compliance and an multidisciplinary approach to designing materials for medical devices. Part 1: Fundamentals of this book already provided a basic understanding on the engineering and processing aspects of biomaterials used in medical applications. Of paramount importance is the tripartite relationship between material properties, processing methods and design.
