This is a very impressive text.  Though covering a great deal of relevant research this is far from being a dry read.  The authors write in a flowing style that engages the reader whilst offering challenge.

Terry Hudson, Teach First Yorkshire and Humber and Sheffield Hallam University

It is with great pleasure that I am able to endorse this excellent text. It is a rich resource for developing a well-informed and critical approach to the subject of Professional Practice.

Dr Yvonne Hill, Keele University

Armitage et al have pulled off a real coup in this text, managing to capture the complexity of professional activity in changing times.

Dr Liz Keeley-Browne. Oxford Brookes University

Education in the 14-19 sector is going through a period of unprecedented change.  This textbook provides a clear, accessible and supportive guide to recent developments in policy, theory and practice, providing you with a complete resource to support you in your initial teacher training.

Each chapter includes a range of interactive pedagogical features, designed to aid understanding:

Case studies provide extended examples that illustrate core concepts and theories in action

Research focus features outline important research studies, revealing their key findings and demonstrating how these apply in everyday practice

What do you think? boxes encourage you to reflect on, and interrogate, what you have learnt

Additional resources and support are available via the Developing Professional Practice companion website, www.pearsoned.co.uk/14-19, where you can access self-study questions, case studies, interactive chapter-by-chapter tutorials, audio clips and a glossary of key terms.

Andrew Armitage, Gina Donovan and Sabrina Poma are all at Canterbury Christ Church University.  Karen Flanagan is a member of the attendance and behaviour service at Kent County Council.
