The focus of the book, Development of Aneurysms, is a detailed discussion of the biology of aneurysms. Aneurysm formation is influenced by alterations in arterial wall protein synthesis, hemodynamic forces, arterial wall inflammation, and matrix protein degradation. The relationships of these forces provide a unified theory for the development of arterial aneurysms. This book encompasses and is currently the only monograph devoted to the most current work on the molecular causes and mechanisms of the formation of arterial aneurysms. It reviews aneurysm epidemiology, etiology, and pathophysiology. In addition, the pharmacologic treatment of aneurysms is reviewed which is pertinent content for treatment of patients with aneurysms which are either managed medically or with stent grafts. In the era of endovascular, non-resectional treatment of aneurysms, Development of Aneurysms offers the opportunity to understand the pathophysiology of the disease in order to best predict which new treatments will be successful, and to understand the potential limitations of new devices used to manage the disease. Few vascular books have focused on the formation and development of aneurysms. For this reason, Development of Aneurysms fills an important void and is essential reading for any specialist who cares for patients with aneurysmal disease.
