The discovery of a dead newborn baby in a barn on an Amish farm in America threatens to ruin the life of a young woman. Circumstantial evidence indicates that the 18-year-old Katie Fisher, an unmarried Amish girl believed to be the babys mother, is responsible for the murder. Katie insists: she did not kill the baby. At the same time, disillusioned city advocate Ellie Hathaway flees to relatives living in the same area to clear her head.
