This is never more the case than when Phoebe finds herself dumped on her wedding day and her little sister nowhere to be found. When Phineas resurfaces and much wine has been consumed, a thought forms itself that will give both sisters the fresh start they so desperately need which involves the heinous idea of Phoebe quitting her successful career in publishing to team up as private investigators with Phineas. Phoebe rejects the idea at first but then sees this as a chance to reinvent her life as well as her strained relationship with her sister. With Phoebe's business background and Phineas' freaky talent of getting information from thin air, the Nobul sisters decide to open Lair's first private investigation service...

The Artemis Agency is barely opened when a corpse is left for the Nobul sisters accompanied with a foreboding warning that has the sisters bunking together. "Crazy" Grandma Becky also lends a hand to help the girls solve Lair's mysterious past. This trigger-happy, ex-Vegas showgirl who has ties to the mafia just might be the inspiration Phoebe and Phineas need to find out who is behind all the murder in their once-peaceful hometown...

Add in a hunky yet overprotective veterinarian, Greg Watson, who has his own opinions of how things should be done. Affectionate and loving on the outside, on the inside he does his best to control the situation, especially as his relationship with one sister draws him deeper into the mystery...

But this killer is gaining ground and the body count is rising. Mysterious vehicles, dark messages, and a past no one knows about just might prove that in Lair exists one hell of a mystery.
