After Seventeen years, Sandy Kelly doesn't understand why her mother doesn't love her or why she keeps leaving, and It's no surprise when her mother tells her she is moving to Breckenridge, Colorado, with or without her. Sandy hesitantly goes with her mother hoping somewhere in the Rocky Mountains she will discover the meaning of love, acceptance and eventually find herself. But along the way, trying to resolve her family issues, Sandy meets JD McCarron, the High school quarterback who is willing to teach her everything she needs to know about love. As her heart starts to open up, so does her eyes, and she discovers everyone has struggles of their own, and everyone has secrets.

It is at the age of seventeen, Sandy Kelly, is forced to make a decision that will forever change her life, when her mother quits her job on a whim and simply announces that she is going to make a new life for herself in Breckenridge, Colorado. Sandy can join her or stay behind. It really didn't matter to her mother. As dumbfounded as any teenager would be at the prospect of living on her own, Sandy leaves Chicago with her mother, hoping that a new environment will give her the mother she wishes she had - a caring, loving one.

It's not long into life in Breckenridge that Sandy realizes that things with her mother will be no different here; her mother is still the same person she was back home, void of love and emotion.

Sandy fills her days exploring everything Breckenridge had to offer with new friends, including JD McCarron, the star quarterback who knows how to score on and off the field until he meets Sandy. The Friday before Spring Break, JD breaks up with Sandy so he can mess around with a girl he meets up with every year in Cabo. When Sandy figures out his game, she moves on.

Sandy broadens her sexual horizons when she meets Tom Carrillo, who is a few years older and more experienced, Tom shows Sandy that there's a difference between the men and the boys.

When JD comes back from break, he spirals out of control when he discovers his girl has moved on and begs Sandy for a second chance.

Sandy, who has never given any boy a second chance, finds herself struggling to decide if she should take him back or move on. The love they have for each other is bonded by mutual experience. The first bond was when Sandy finally trusted JD enough to forsake her virginity, in his parent's hot tub, no less. The second bond would happen just six months into life in Breckenridge when Sandy's mother decides to leave with no forewarning, forcing Sandy to remain behind and live with the family of her high school guidance counselor, in order to finish her senior year.

Successfully graduating high school without the direct support of her parents. Sandy is determined to leave the shadow of her childhood, her mother, and everyone else who has hurt her behind. She finds her voice after yea...
