Sir John Samuel Bt. built and raced GT cars in the 1960s, developed the UK's Enfield 8000 electric passenger car (1970) and headed the Electric Auto Corp. team in Detroit in early hybrid development. Later in 1990, his team won the City of Los Angeles Electric Vehicle Initiative and launched the LA301 plug-in hybrid in Tokyo. It inspired the Toyota Prius which became Japan's best-selling car - all before the advent of lithium ion batteries. More recently, he founded Refuel Technology/REDT Energy (now Invinity Energy Systems) which has commercialised the Vanadium Redox flow battery for bulk storage of renewable energy.Dr. Pete James is a specialist in advanced power electronics for EV drive systems and megawatt rapid charge systems. He is the chairman of Power Electronics, Machines and Drives Technology network for the IET. He was previously co-founder and technical director at Lyra Electronics Ltd., developing power converters for the electrification of transport. He holds a PhD in power electronics from The University of Manchester and was chairman of the Automotive and Road Transport Systems Technical Network for the IET. In 2009, he was on the scrutineering and regulation setting team for the inaugural Electric Motorbike TT Race TTXGP and continued in this role for several years taking the championship around the world. Pete is an avid promoter of electric vehicles and has owned EVs for over 10 years.
